Beretta mags

The Beretta mags I ordered last week, at a rather nice discount, arrived yesterday. They are, as I expected, brand-new factory mags just ready for that long Deep Sleep in an ammo can somewhere.

I am, first and foremost, a Glock guy. Is the Glock my favorite 9mm handgun? No. The Browning HiPower is my fave. But the Glock is the gun I would prefer to carry through Ragnarok.

However, mostly because of the US military’s use of them, I keep a couple Beretta 92FS laying around as well. A fine gun, by 1980’s standards, but the double/single action design, all metal construction, and overall size/bulk make it a design that is surpassed by more modern guns…esp. the polymer ones.

Anyway, if I’m going to keep a gun tucked away for the end of the world, I’m gonna need mags for it. And when you need spare mags for your blaster you usually want them as capacious as possible while still being somewhat practical. (Which is why Glock 17 happystick yes, Glock 17 drum no.)

So these will get wiped down and tucked away in an ammo can to await the next magazine ban (because I always buy extras for resale) or to await the end of the world. Whichever comes first.

Although theres a good chance they’ll both be the same event.

Regardless, I hope you took advantage and got yours while you could.

Black Friday – CheapAmmo.com

The notices of Black Friday (or Friday Of Color, for those of the woke persuasion) sales continue to land in my mailbox. Case in point from CheapAmmo.com:

It’s only Tuesday and the sales are trickling in already. Gonna be an expensive week!

Beretta mags

Ok, I don’t know who here has the weight to pull off a purchase like this to get the discount , but:

Beretta 92FS Magazine 9mm 15Rds Unpackaged – $9.99 if you buy 41 with code 22BFD50

Their 30-rd Beretta 92 mags are already at 25% off, making them $29.99. If you order 27 of them, as I just did, you get another 50% off and free shipping. That brings the mags down to $15 ea. Since I have a pair of M9 pistols, these seemed like a good idea. I had plenty of 15-rd mags, but those 30-rd mags…mmmm….sexy.

These mags, ostensibly for the Beretta 93R, are tailor made for the Beretta 9mm carbines. But…they work just fine in your 92’s.

Go. Spend. Hoard.

WinCo keeps winning

Ah, WinCo….How I love thee.

About a week ago I thought WinCo had sealed the deal and become my favorite place to shop. But, today plucked the strings of my heart (and wallet) even further. Behold:

Now, my freezer is already at 105% capacity. No room at the inn. But, dang it, for a buck and a half a pound I will figure something out. Is it a bargain if I spend $400 on a new freezer in order to save $1.50 a pound on chicken? Mmmmm…probably not…but it sure is tempting.

No idea how long the sale lasts, but if you’re local, the WinCo is on Reserve and South. Tell ’em Commander Zero sent you.

Right place, right time

As you may recall, around the beginning of this year I was able to head up to WinCo and purchase boneless/skinless for a reasonable $1.98/#. And then Bidenflation started its magic and the price slowly crept up to an amazing overnight $0.60/# price increase.

But, my favorite animal protein is chicken…its versatile and goes with everything. So..I buy. And during today’s trip to WinCo I beheld this:

Well then….time to enter Survivalist Mode. First thing was to grab a bunch for myself. I mean, it isn’t like availability and pricing are going to be getting better, right? (Although the more literal minded of you will point out that, yes, the price did, in fact, go down. But…thats a sale, man. A temporary lull.)

Second step, take a picture and alert the local LMI that it’s an opportunity to stock up. And, my freinds, that is one of the advantages to having a small group of like-minded individuals as friends – when one finds something thats useful he can alert the others to the deal.

And this is why I always leave room in the budget for serendipitous things like this. Unfortunately, I don’t always leave room in the freezer….so, its back to freezer Tetris as I try and stuff a not inconsequential amount of chicken away for that upcoming rainy day.

By the way, meat wasn’t even on my shopping list. But I always take a pass through the meat department to keep on top of things like this. Good habit to get into.

Bargains — $5 AK mags

You know I love you crazy, prepping deplorables, right? Well, I do. Most of you, anyway. But…as much as I love you, I need to put my needs first. Thats why when I come across a bargain I don’t share it until I’ve taken my bite. Once thats done, its a free for all. Case in point:

A Friend of The Blog ™ and fellow blogger tipped me off to this deal:

AC Unity (Bosnia and Herzegovina..screw it, just call them Yugoslovian) AK mags in 30- and 40-rd capacity for a mere $5 ea.

20-PACK GERMAN MARKET AC AK47 30RD MAGS, UNDER $5 EACH

20-PACK GERMAN MARKET AC AK47 40RD MAGS, UNDER $5 EACH

While I respect the AK platform, I’m an AR guy. And, somehow, I’ve managed to wind up with a handful of AK’s as of late. Well, might as well get mags for them, right? I ordered a hundred of these, a mix of 30- and 40-rd, and they arrived today. They seem to fit well enough, and they have metal reinforcements at the magazine contact points (nose for the ‘rock in’, and rear for the magazine latch.) For $5 a mag, theyre a nice hedge against the looming bans.

I went long on AK mags a few years ago when those Korean-made AK mags were coming in. Good mags, although the metal was thinner than youre average Chinese mag. Worked fine though and the price was right. These are even cheaper. Go grab a few and tuck ’em back in the attic or basement for that rainy day. Or buy a bunch and resell them for a couple hundred percent profit. Either way, not a lot of reasons not to drop a hundred bucks (or more) on this.

Canning deal

A little inventory, math, and inventory math told me that while I’m pretty well positioned on canning lids, it might be a good idea to lay in a few more jars. A couple dozen cases of 12, at least. So, since Saturday is my somewhat-usual shopping day I decided to hit a few places around town and find the cheapest price on cases of pint jars. I stopped after my second attempt:

Uhm…okay. I’ll take them all. So that works out to about $0.83 for one new pint jar, ring, and lid. I’m good with that.

I like the pint jars for their single-serving proportions. I do keep quarts around, of course, but the majority of the jars I have are pints.

I’m sure there are other brands out there but the stakes are too high for me to tkae my chances on Johnny-come-lately brands or, worse, made in China stuff. Ball and Kerr, in that order. Nothing else.

So I managed to put a pretty good chunk of my jar needs into the green. Thats good. I need to get down in the basement and do a thorough inventory of jars, lids, and bands. They are something I usually don’t track because a simple look at the shelves tells me there’s “a lot” of them, but I suppose I should be more precise.

Anyway, it seemed like a good deal and that it might not be a bad idea to take advantage of it. So..I did.

Just bring me all the guns you have.

It has been quite a while since I did a gun deal that required me to literally back the truck up to the door of the sales venue.

And yet, there I was.

I wasn’t the person who came across this particular estate, but the person who did was nice enough to put me near the top of the list for buyers. The decedent was, apparently, ‘one of us’…with stockpiles of ammo, magazines, and that sort of thing. The widow decided to keep the storage food and a few guns for herself. The rest…was up for grabs.

Unfortunately, while I got some smokin’ deals on guns and ammo, they were guns and ammo that weren’t exactly in my logistics table. But, guns I don’t necessarily want have an uncanny way of transmuting into guns I do want…usually facilitated by selling them to someone and then using the proceeds to get what I really wanted.

What did I score? Hmm..some .40 Glocks, a Para-Ord .45 with a buncha 14-rd mags, a camo’d PTR91, and a Norinco milled Mak90 with several thousand rounds of ammo, a dozen mags and a couple drums. And at least a couple thousand rounds of .308 as well.

While I do like the PTR’s, I prefer the newer GI models that have the paddle mag release. I’ll sell this one and it’s dozen mags and use the proceeds to hunt down a newer GI model. The Glocks will get sold to get 9mm versions. The Para I have no idea what to do with. Might keep it…might not. The AK is actually pretty nice for a thirty year old gun, and apparently the milled receivers make them worth a nice chunk on Gunbroker. I’ll probably keep the ammo just because.

Still have to pick up the stack of big ammo cans which will go towards housing all the magazines I have here ready to go into the Deep Sleep.

Things I missed out on in the estate were .44 and .45 Ruger revolvers, some Bushmaster ARs, a nice Rem 700 .223 ‘gopher gun’, and a few other things like that.

RIght place, right time, wrong guns for the most part. But..wheeling and dealing is always fun so it’ll be interesting to try and sell/trade these out for the stuff I’d rather have.

I find it fascinating that since the ban on Russian ammo I have been falling into so much 7.62×39.

Scenes from a coin & gun shop

Me: Still have that Wolf 7.62×39 ammo you wanna sell?
Him: You want it? You’re not gonna like the price.
Me: How much?
Him: Twentyfive cents per round.
Me: I’ll take it all.
Him: :::Suspicious::: Why are you buying all my ammo?
Me: Maybe I know something you don’t…
Him: Like?

And, yeah, he had no idea about the import ban.

Yeah, I had plenty (for my needs) of 7.62AK ammo but I can always resell this for a profit but, lets e real, it’s just gonna get bunkered.
