Paratus mailings

Paratus stuff will start shipping tomorrow and Tuesday. Apparently some people took to heart that if you want to get on the Paratus card list you need to drop me a card or gift. As a result, a couple packages have showed up over the last week. Well, a deals a deal…if you sent me something with your address on it, congrats!, you’re now on the list.

However, someone sent me a nice firestarter kit but they didnt send and address info. Maybe they just wanted to send a Paratus gift and didnt want to get on the list, or maybe they overlooked the detail of sending an address. If you sent me a firestarter and you want to be on the list, email me the info and describe the firestarter. If you just wanted to send a gift and didnt care if you got on the list…well done…thank you!

Paratus is this Friday, guys. Make your list, do your shopping. and make the Like-Minded Individuals in your life a little happier this week!

Paratus cards mailing info

Paratus is Friday of next week and I’m wrapping up the labels and envelopes. SO…a bit of administrative stuff here:

If you got a little something sent to you for Paratus last year and you had an address change, you need to email me.

Ticom – email me an address, buddy. I’d like to add you to the list.

If youre not on the list but want to be don’t send me an email or comment saying ‘Please add me to the Paratus card list’. It doesnt work that way.

If I send you a Paratus card or gift and it gets returned as a bad address, address unknown, forwarding expired, etc. you’re off the list until such time as you get me a valid address. Ain’t no one got time for that.

The post is over…. go forth and prep in peace.

Paratus approaches

Hey guys… a reminder that Paratus, the holiday of, by, and for, survivalists is September 15th. You have two weeks to get your Paratus shopping done.

Paratus cards are in hand and will be sent out a few days before the actual holiday.

I’ve said this almost every year, and yet people still get some crazy idea that ll the have to do to get on the Paratus card list is make a comment or email with their mailing address and a request to get on the list. Guys, it doesn’t work like that. From the FAQ:

How do I get on the Paratus card list?

It’s pretty simple and blatantly selfish. If you’ve signed up at Patreon, sent me a gift of any kind, are someone I know ‘in real life’, are an ‘internet friend’ with whom I’ve exchanged many emails, had sex with me, or otherwise have interacted with me on more than a casual basis…and you’ve provided an address…you’ll get on the list.

Simply emailing or commenting with your address and “Please send me a Paratus card” will not work.

Remember: Paratus is your holiday. Call your vendors and gun shops and ask if they have a Paratus Day sale. Make it as big a holiday as you want it to be. Include your like-minded friends.

Paratus reminder

Paratus is less than fifty days out. Guys, if you got a Paratus greeting from me in the mail last year and you think youre gonna get another one this year, you need to let me know if your address has changed. If I get something returned as undeliverable because you didnt send me a current address…well, youre off the list. Ain’t nobody got time for that!

Paratus cards have arrived and I’m making a list and checking it twice……..

My address, of course, remains the same in case any of you glorious savages wanna send the Commander a little somethin’….

Paratus approaches

Hey kids…a gentle reminder that this year Paratus falls on Sept. 15th. For those of you familiar with Paratus, the holiday by and for survivalists, no introduction is needed. However, if you’re new here you should go read the world famous Paratus FAQ and learn about your holiday.

Paratus cards are at the printer and will be sent out at the appropriate time. How do you get on the Paratus card list? Usually by either engaging with me throughout the year, or kicking into Patreon and providing me a mailing address. A smaller percentage of people will get gifts in addition to a card. The gifts will, of course, follow the gift-giving rubric in the FAQ.

An d, of course, you are more than welcome to send me a Paratus card/gift of your own. Make sure to poke some holes in the box so she can breathe 😉

Paratus 2022

Happy Paratus, my fellow deplorables!

EVERYTHING YOU WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT PARATUS

In case you didnt get one, here is this years card:

This year, the Paratus Long Range Recon Gift Squad brought me a little boomtoy I’ve been wanting for a while. I’ll have a post up about that tomorrow.

I hope you all have a great Paratus, get lotsa cool gear, and take this opportunity to increase your resilience against what’s coming.

And a generalized thank you to everyone who wished me a happy Paratus, and a special thank you to the handful of people who sent gifts (or gift cards) to yours truly. I appreciate it.

Go out there and play with your new gear this weekend…thats what the holiday is for!

The universe provides

So, you know how a little while back I picked up an MP5K clone? Its a cute piece but it really needs an..”arm brace”…to really make it useful. And, this week, two separate Paratus gifts arrived. A TailHook arm brace, and an MP5 sidefolder from Choate that is made to take the TailHook. Well, I guess thats everything needed to make this thing more practical.

A thank you to the generous readers who sent Paratus gifts that managed to serendipitously compliment each other.

Paratus this Friday

Just a reminder that Paratus is this Friday. I received a very thoughtful package in the mail today of some .357 brass and I’d like to thank the thoughtful person who sent it, and a card, for Paratus. Much thanks!

Truth be told, I find wrapping gifts to be a waste of time and resources.

Paratus cards were mailed today, so keep an eye open…you know who you are!

How do you get on Commander Zero’s card list? Well, naughty or nice has no bearing on it (unless youre a smoking hot chick, in which case naughty will very much work in your favor).

To get on the list you either sign up for Patreon and make sure i have an address for you, send me a gift or card, or be someone I interact with often. Thats it…simple. What does not work: saying “Here’s my address. Please add me to your card list.”

Remember, fellow deplorables….Paratus is your holiday. It’s about you and the interests that you and I share. So make the holiday into what you want it to be, just make it about preparedness and resilience.

Paratus Reminder

Paratus is in two weeks, guys. (Sep 16 2022)

Get your shopping done early and be sure to ask your favorite vendors why they aren’t having a Paratus sale.

And, naturally, if you want to get yours truly a little somethin’ for the holiday, I wouldn’t say no.

And just because it’s kinda fun, here’s a link I’ve posted before:

Happy Paratus Day! The Story Behind a New Holiday, and a Gift Giving Guide

This year is the fourth year of what has become a somewhat-tradition of sending cards/gifts to certain readers. However, in case you missed it, here’s the original post from when I came up with the idea. As you can see, if you go by this post, Paratus has been around for dang near twenty years.

Is it a ‘real’ holiday? Dude, all holidays are as real (or unreal) as you make them. Paratus is your holiday, you make it into as real a holiday as you want. In the spirit of rugged individualism and sovereignty, it’s what you want it to be.

.357 rambling

Someone was nice enough to send me an early Paratus gift the other day…a Priority Mail box full of fired .357 Mag brass. Much to my surprise, it turns out that while I have, literally, buckets of .38 Spl. brass I was a bit light on .357 brass. So, this was a very welcome gift and I am grateful to the person who sent it.

Although I like the .44 Mag as much as the next guy, and I carry a .44 when I’m in the woods, my preferred revolver cartridge for survivalist needs is the .357 Magnum. Bullet selection is absurdly large, I can shoot light, cheap, and pleasant .38 Spl. interchangeably, and the guns can be a tad smaller than the .44’s. Is it my first choice for things with teeth and claws? No..although it’ll suffice in a pinch. But it is my first revolver choice for things with language skills and lapses in respect for individual rights.

Although the ‘ideal’ is a 125 gr. JHP, I prefer a bit more bullet weight…I usually go with the standard 158~ gr. JHP. If I’m after penetration, I switch over to the 125 gr. Lyman #358093 cast from linotype. It’ll penetrate everything that isn’t from Krypton. Realistically, though, a good hard cast bullet of just about any shape will outperform a jacketed one in terms of penetration, assuming equal velocities for both.

As for the launching platform, I am a fan of the Ruger GP-100 for my .357 needs. This is based on a criteria that is heavily weighted towards durability and ruggedness. The GP is about the same frame size as a Colt Python or Smith L-frame (and I do love me some S&W 681) and, often, holsters and speedloaders between the three will interchange. The GP has a couple features that, in addition to its Ruger ruggedness, make it a winner for me….the easily swappable front sight inserts are sweet, and I like the modularity of the trigger group for disassembly.

Ruger’s SP-101 series of snubbies is also a winner if you’re willing to tote the weight of a five-shot snubby made out of stainless steel. But, for the end of the world, a little extra weight might be an acceptable tradeoff for a gun that is nigh unkillable.

Out of a carbine, like my lovely Marlin 1894, the .357 Mag picks up a bit of velocity and becomes a very zippy, very controllable carbine cartridge for less-than-intermediate range. Basically, any distance you’d be comfortable with open sights will work. For my needs, thats about 100 yards.

While I’d rather ride out Katrinaville with a Glock and an AR, I wouldnt’ feel terribly undergunned with a pistol/carbine combo in .357. And, of course, being chambered for one cartridge makes logistics a bit more streamlined.

Although I carry a Glock as a matter of routine, I do carry a revolver from time to time in my daily life. In a post-apocalyptic world, the revolver has a lot going for it in terms of ammunition flexibility, retention of empties for reloading, and ability to digest ammo that might choke an auto. The drawback, of course, is that when a revolver has an issue you pretty much have to have a gunsmith….with something like a Glock all you need is some drop-in spare parts.

But, I digress…..I likes me some .357, and I thank the thoughtful reader who sent me the brass (and winds up getting on my Paratus card list). There’s no such thing as ‘too much’ when it comes to reloadable pistol brass.
