  1. I’ve got two Rugers. A 10/22 I’ve had for years. Rebuilt it with a target barrel and Houge stock. Now it has the heft for me to hold it steady. It was to light as it was from the factory. I’m not a small guy. So it’s much better.
The other is a Ruger Bearcat made the first week of production and wears a three digit serial number. According to the letter I have from Ruger. Got a nice Lawrence holster with it. It is suited very well to instinct shooting. Just palm the gun and fire. Yeah. It takes practice.
I had a Ruger Mini 14. It was not what I expected when I purchased it. Had an issue with the projectiles keyholing 30 feet from the muzzle. Was never happy with it. I spoke with some friends who were shooting three gun competition about the problem. They told me it was common. And that that Model wasn’t used unless a novice was starting out with one. So I peddled that was soon as the opportunity presented itself. I understand that when Mr Ruger senior passed from the scene his son had the issue resolved. The GB models did not suffer from that particular issue. Many were used for law enforcement and correctional facilities. Not to mention a certain number that were made for the French Foreign Legion. Those had an interesting extra hole in the receiver. No doubt what that was.
Me. I like S&W revolvers and semi autos. The 1911 platform is also on my list. I have been checking out the new Taraus handguns. The 586 in 38spl with a three inch barrel is a very nice revolver. And their new line of semiautomatic G series. The early G2 Millennial had quality issues. But now these pistols are made here in the US under a new manager with a new focus on quality. And they are listening to their customers as far as what they want to see.
As soon as a few bucks extra present themselves I intend to purchase a 586 in 38spl. Grew up with revolvers. The semi autos are better now and more reliable. Maybe I’ll invest in one of the new Taraus semis.

  2. I don’t own any Ruger centerfire automatics, but if I did, I would pick the .45ACP. model, even with reduced magazine capacity Simply because I can reload the larger cartridge easier in the dark. For me, loading 9mm in the dark is problematic.

Do you have any experience with that particular .45acp chambered model ? Good or bad feedback of it ? I’d appreciate some feedback from people who have.

    • I have the P90 in 45 ACP and it is a fine gun. Actually shot it in competition long ago and placed 5th against 25-30 LEO’s shooting race guns. The stop plate was out at 25 yds and the go fast boys had trouble hitting it, my P90 center punched it on the first try. Any Ruger P series is built stout and reliable, or CZ wouldn’t be hoarding them!

    • JRG- i own a P90DC model .45 with the decocking lever, stainless. Bought new in 1993. only mods i made were a fully adjustable rear sight and a hogue grip that wraps around the front strap with some finger slots. it shoots and runs great. the P series were built with the intent of obtaining the military contract, mine has never failed to feed, fire and function, with quality ammo. just dont use the wolf crap ammo and run 350 rounds through it, the insides will look like it was dipped in tar!

  3. with the exception of a 22 pistol, a mark 2, I’ve been happy with almost every ruger I’ve owned. mini 14’s, 10/22’s a blackhawk, a gp100. I also have a sp101 in 22 cal. the trigger is hard for an old guy with strength issues in my hands but single action is fine.

  4. Was this you?
“Curious to see if they really were that reliable or if the rep was just hazy nostalgia from a misspent youth, we inquired around and wound up getting one, along with a few magazines, from a dealer in exchange for $200. (Actually, 11 ounces of silver, but that’s another story.)”

  5. Speaking of Ruger’s. Anyone have any experience with the Mini 30 tactical? Those intrigue me very much. I see these have gone up quite a bit. Three years ago they were at about a grand. Now the website shows them at about $1800. Be a nice carbine to have along when timber cruising.

  6. Hey CZ, the site was offline for a while last night, did you have any specific issues? Trying to keep track of the random failures and enemy action…

  7. Commander:
As I am a Brit (yes I know – Hiss Boo!), I don’t recognize the film quote you are using for your heading.
    What is it from?

    Ceejay

  8. I’d be embarrassed to tell you how many Rugers I own but it’s a two-digit number. I have two 10/22s and a matched pair of old-style Vaqueros in .44mag. I generally feed the Vaqueros .44spl and they are very well behaved on that diet. My mini-14 is trouble free and shoots very straight if I do my job.

About the rest of the hoard, I’ll just keep my own counsel but I am a huge fan.
