Getting paddled V

The guns I sent to Bill Springfield came back last week. Sorta. There were several rifles shipped in two separate boxes and somehow FedEx managed to screw things up to the point that it took an entire week for box #2 to arrive.

But, I’m pleased. I’m less than pleased wit FedEx, but I’m quite pleased with Mr Springfield’s work.

And, since TPIWWP:

The paddle mag release really overcomes one of the biggest headaches about the semi-auto G3-type rifles. I had taken to not shooting the non-paddle guns just because they weren’t as convenient as the paddled ones. As a result, I have a couple of the PTR rifles here I haven’t shot in probably seven years. Now that they are all functionally identical, I’ll probably shoot them more.

If I had to do it over again, I’d get the AR-10 from S&W and go with that for my .308 needs. But, I’ve already got a goodly amount of these, a huge amount of mags, and a decent amount of support gear.

Anyway, I feel more at peace now that the incompetent goobers at FedEx finally(!!!) got me the rest of my guns.

    • One of them is already in a flecktarn pattern. I’m going to send one out for winter M84 camo.

  1. Where’s the bad guys when you need them???? Oh yeah over at Twatter protesting Musks recent purchase…

  2. My G3 is a Pakistan made-under-license H&K G3, sear by Fleming, conversion by Volmer, full auto. While Volmer had it, he called and asked if I wanted to make it a G3K with a 14″ barrel; said it would sound like a “50 Cal”. I said yes. Bad decision! That gun is stomach-sickening LOUD!!! Even with a suppressor, ear plugs AND muffs are needed. However, the gun is absolutely reliable. It feeds everything, including my handloads, and throws the cases into the next county! And, when I bought it, Al mags were 98 cents apiece! I bought a shit-load of them! And my Dillon press filled them. It’s not my first choice for a home invader or wild dogs attacking my livestock, but, for riots or war it is my first choice.

  3. FedEx is awful! I once drove to a nearby town in response to a note left on my door, concerning a problem with a delievery only to find out that the note wasn’t meant for me. “Sorry sir, even though the note has your name on it, it should have been left at another location”. I’ve often had deliveries made to neighbors, left beside a tree near the entrance to my property, several to a fenced in doghouse within view of my house, and at odd locations near my garage. The driver usually reports “handed to resident”” 🙄 I put up a sign saying “Leave Deliveries Here”, but it hasn’t seemed to help. I’ve come to rate FedEx service with AT&T: Don’t expect too much and you’ll not be disappointed too often.

  4. What would make you prefer the S&W for a 308 AR? Just curious on any research you might have done.

    Thx!

  5. Hey CZ, Your weapons rack looks like Bundswerh ready room. You are thorough with your armaments. Different color schemes for fighting in whatever season required. No stone unturned thinking. I feel like a slacker.
    I have 2 (plain black) HK91s. One I got in 1980s.
Some years back I had Williams Trigger Specialties do a trigger job for one. Big improvement.
After reading about your good experience with Bill Springfield’s services, I want to order the drop in trigger group with trigger job (seems like $200).
The paddle is way cool. I’m lefty and the button mag release doesn’t seem like a big hindrance for me. I grab mag body with four fingers of right hand (left hand on pistol grip) and press button with thumb. Not super tactical but it works for me.
The mounting rail shown in past posts looks like the way to go for nice low mount of optics. I have a clamp on (ARMS I think) for scope. I had to do the MagPull adj cheek rest stock on that set up. Makes me like running the rifle with just iron sights.

    • Steve.

Don’t cry, Krylon spray paint in “natural, flat earth colors” can help you out, bra.

‘Someone’ once told me they had seen, ‘somewhere’…….. a few “shiny” receivers (after the HK factory ‘paint jobs’ wore off) that had been returned to a more natural, earthy state, thanks to Krylon.

      Peace Out.

Fly “Adios Airways” when you get the chance.
