Ah Commander Zero is going to be a “Fixer” in the Grey Market 🙂 as in “I know a fella” style fixer. Opens trench coat to reveal wide mouth lids AND Rings asking what do YOU have to trade…
As a bit of a Historical Buff, I notice that Trade Requires a measure of Direct or Implied Force to keep the riff raff from simply killing and robbing the say Civil War Sutler. Even Tax Collection in the Early Years of the American Colonies did FAR Better (Less Tar and Feathers) with a detachment of troops along.
In the Chechnya era of trade in the fall of the USSR the Chechnya traders had their steel barred shops AND Mafia style enforcers to “Keep de peace”. Folks showed up with family treasures to trade for bread and such.
So, in short, always trade from a position of Strength, lest you get “Taxed-Robbed-Killed” by your clients.
We get them by the 3’/three foot long sleave here in Amish country…they sell them by the pound cause’ they get used by the pound around here.
Where do you buy them in three foot sleeves?
Commander:
When it comes to “Overkill” I thought the response was –
There is no such thing as overkill – There is “I need to fire again”, or “I don’t need to fire again!”
When it comes to supplies, you ALWAYS need to obtain more…
Ceejay
No wonder I can’t get lids – you got them! Lately I’ve seen lids the stores again. Not many, a dozen or two. So I buy a couple – three boxes to add to my stash.
SouthernNH,
Yes I have been seeing more and more lids on the shelves and like you, I usually buy 3 to 6 dozen. Our garden was pretty much a waste this past year but it was a learning process (we did our own seedlings) so will apply those lessons and will get some @&$* salsa next year!
Why’d ‘ya buy s’many lids???
…Cuz I can…
Nice!
What’s the shelf life of the lids? The sealant won’t last forever….
Some years back, a friend cleaning out their house, gifted me with boxes of lids that were more than 10 yrs old, at least. Every one of them worked and held the seal after processing.
Perhaps not. But even a 50% fail rate beats the 100% fail rate of not having them at all.
Absolutely.
Like many things I think how you store them will determine that. Cool temps, no sunlight and probably a steady medium humidity
Vacuum seal?
I’m not sure but I have reused lids that are 10 years old.
