Ok..I went, I saw, I came home and fondled my AR15.
Theres three movie versions of Mathesson’s “I Am Legend” and I think I like this one best althoguh it probably follows the book least of all of them.
Because I am a compassionate human being, I will post a spoilers cut.
So if youre alone in Manhattan, with plenty of abandoned military vehicles and whatnot around, and youre outnumbered a couple million to one wouldnt you take a few precautions like, oh:
Carrying a handgun or two everywhere you go? Im watching Neville negotiating tight hallways with his M4 and Im thinking ‘12 ga. autloader or pistol would be nice right about now’. Everytime he uses a handgun in this movie he has to retrieve it from some hidden location.
Driving something a little better armored. Yeah the Explorer was nice but the bad guys were able to tip it over and break into it. Try that with an armored HMMV or armored scout car. And dont say he needed to drive something with four-wheel drive…he was zipping around in a Mustang for the first part of the movie.
Having more than one fortified residence in case your primary one gets overrun? You have every building in Manhattan to choose from. SO you stay in your old home and fortify it? You could have the NG armory, any of the heavily fortified fedearl buildings, event he average NYC public school with its wired-over windows, doors without exterior handles and foot thick concrete walls would have been a better choice. But even if you were going to stick it out at home, wouldnt you have an escape plan and a few scattered, stocked retreats in case your main one went up in smoke?
Carry some grenades??????? C’mon….the bad guys like the dark and won’t come into the sunlight. So why not lob some WP or HE into a building before going in? Or just carry a few in your bag for those tight moments where nothing clears a stairwell like explosive concussion?
Still and all, not a bad flick although theres some stuff I didnt understand. For example, the scene of Neville splashing down his steps with some liquid when he came home. What was that about? Bleach to hide scent? Water to hide tracks? Dunno.
I just cant shake the feeling that a military man would have been a bit more…prolific…in his armament when wandering through a city possessed of a million cannibalistic killers. Seriously, wouldnt you carry a few WP and fragmentation grenades just to roll into those dark places?
Will Smiths role, really, could have been done by anyone. Hell, I bet Adam Sandler could have done this movie. The amount of depth needed for the character wasnt much of a stretch. But, all in all, it was enjoyable.
I’ll buy this movie when it comes out and add it to my stash of SHTF movies.
it is amazing
how periodically they will re-cycle movie themes into new versions. for another note, people use to living in a certain spot might just stay put because “it feels like home” rather than move to a more secured and fortified location. weapons and tatics, depends on the individual involved, same could be said of transport choices. hell, hollywood sells fantasy not reality, so what occurs in a movie, real life is vastly diffrent. this is why so many people confuse the films with reality in making bad choices. from Wildflower 07
He was pouring vinegar on the steps.
But why?
Ammonia
It was ammonia and it was to cover his scent so the zombie – vampires couldn’t track him.
Though I would think they could smell him on the doorknob or just eat his truck or something.
Re: Ammonia
Yes and no. I saw the movie again last night with an eye towards catching all the details. It WAS vinegar. He doused the steps to his house with it but he also dousd the snaretrap he used to c atch the infected as well. This makes me believe it definitely was to cover his scent.
