Article – Meet the Americans ‘standing by’ for possible election violence

Some Americans worried about possible violence after the U.S. presidential election are forming community watch groups, others are working on conflict de-escalation and still others are purchasing guns, according to two dozen voters, online groups and data surveyed by Reuters.

Don’t kid yourself. There’s violence after every election. Don’t believe me? Go ask a cop what happens at Thanksgiving every four years when someone has had too many beers and starts talking politics.

But it’s a different kind of violence they are suggesting this time around. I suppose that if you live in a place like California, Chicago, NYC, Atlanta, etc, there may be some localized violence but nothing that “sweeps the nation” as “armed militias storm polling places” or anything like that. Loud and obnoxious groups of people screaming at each other, throwing rocks, carrying baseball bats, setting fires, and the like? Probably. In Kansas? No. In Utah? No. In North Dakota? No. In Maine? No. Contrary to what they’d have you believe, when something happens in California and NYC at the same time that does not equate to ‘nationwide’.

I live in a college town..a bastion of liberal Democrats in a state that is otherwise rather Republican…and my ‘upgraded’ plans for being prepared for election day are the same as for any other Tuesday. I lock my doors to my house, I park where the security cameras can record, I carry a pistol in my pocket, and I keep my eyes open. Same as every other day.

I’m not saying there’s not going to be violence after the election. What I’m saying is there isn’t going to be violence after the election that violently affects me. And this notion that we’re going to have an actual armband-wearing, black-flag waving, up-against-the-wall revolution is, in my opinion, pure fantasy. If we have a ‘revolution’ it’ll be an engineered political one rather than a spontaneous shooting one.

So why am I stockpiling ammo, AR’s, food, and that sort of thing? Because you don’t have to have a civil war to have the wheels fly offa civilization. Angry mobs burning down LA or NYC may not constitute a civil war, but it does constitute a giant inconvenient pain in the ass to the people who live there. I live peacefully in flyover country but, as we know, crap rolls downhill, right? Well, it also radiates outward like ripples in a pond. So…I keep the freezer, gas tank, and magazines topped off.

New tag: election

  1. whenever I hear statements such as ‘…working on conflict de-escalation…’ the question comes to mind, what were they doing before? Ignoring it or trying to escalate it?

  2. “….when something happens in California and NYC at the same time that does not equate to ‘nationwide’.”

When my daughter signed-up for the cross-country team here in rural Pohdunk, Maine, they said she has to wear a mask while running. In the woods.

I asked “why”, and was told, “well, we’re just following the Massachusetts CDC guidelines.”

Pretty sure we have a well-funded “Maine CDC” here, so why do we need to blindly follow some other idiot-state’s guidelines? I *want* to like these people, but sometimes I hate their fricking guts.

  3. I’m 100% sure that, regardless of who wins, there’s going to be more than the average amount of violence and disorder between Election Day and next spring. And in some places it’s probably going to get pretty bad.

The probability of politically related violence and disorder is just one more reason to do like I did and move to a town (Eau Claire, WI in my case) that most people have never heard of and where nothing exciting ever happens. Also, winter in Wisconsin is mighty cold. Not that many people are going to be out on the streets here for more than an hour or 2 at a time. The most that will happen here is a peaceful march or rally with 100 people showing up and it will be over in an hour or two.

  4. I’m not really worried about political violence. I’m worried about a collapsing economy. I’m in a very rural area – my town doesn’t even have a gas station or a bank. No one is going to be rioting here.

It’s not a matter of if but rather when the dollar disintegrates. Hyperinflation is baked into the cake. The US Dollar (Federal Reserve NOTE) is a giant Ponzi scheme. A NOTE is a promise to pay. What does it promise to pay? A US Dollar!! The law of the land defines a Dollar as 371 and 1/4 grains of silver. When was the last time you could go to the bank and hand them a dollar bill and they gave you real silver in exchange? I thought so. The US is broke. Bankrupt. The wealth of the nation was stolen a long time ago. We just haven’t figured it out yet. Why have’nt the criminals that stole the wealth left the crime scene yet? There is one thing left that they haven’t stolen from you yet. Your freedom – and they may get it election day.
When good, decent, hard working men see their children freezing and starving, they will become like vicious animals to protect their families. Initially, they’ll come begging. When that no longer pans out, they’ll band together in groups and set about going from house to house scavenging for what ever they can find.

    • yup, last paragraph is 100% correct. rural people are just the same as inner city. in my rural area, during the great TP shortage of 2020 the word hoarder was being tossed around by so called “goodfolks”. own more than the masses you will always be a target. do not think you have escaped the looters, they are everywhere. if rural, you will have to put down many so called red blooded trump flag waving assholes before any commie thug reaches your county line.

  5. “There’s a storm a comin”…no doubt.
But what will “kick” it off ?
All the dangers we’re currently facing
    are connected…by hair triggers.
The commies are all in…they have to
go for it, this time…Why ?
They very well could end up in prison…
Political unrest could lead to economic market failures.
Just in time deliveries wouldn’t take much to fail.
Even now, shortages with raw materials, in most
categories, are failing…already causing other shortages…
in turn, rippling stress which easily leads to unrest.
Others comments, previously posted, reflect sound
    thought and judgement…but…
which ever “kicks” it all off, it will in fact spread
as likened to “ripples in the pond” as another stated.
Stay the course friends, continue to prep.
It’s the best insurance anyone could have.

  6. Violence is NOT an “if” but rather a when and where I think. Just keep one on the street and the other on what banks might do.

  7. If Harris wins, then the folks burning down Portland and Minneapolis will be running the country, and they will be coming after us
