Earlier today, we learned that all Montana University System campuses, including the University of Montana, would transition to remote instruction after spring break (3/23). While we thought this might be coming, I still feel a bit of a shock in hearing the final decision. I have not had time to completely absorb this information or redesign the course, so I will not have answers to all of your questions yet. Nonetheless, I want to communicate a few things with you.
1. Our experience will look different, but my commitment to you is for you to learn the material you need to be successful in your career. I will examine the content of the course and may need to redesign some elements.
2. I continue to work with McGrawHill to help you obtain access to Connect resources.
3. I will find a way to deliver in-class content remotely, either synchronously or asynchronously. Please be patient as I test out the different options to find one that is easy enough to learn in a short period of time and will work well given the type of content we cover (technical, mathematically-oriented).
4. I will hold remote office hours. I need to figure out the options for this – maybe you’ll sign up for zoom meetings, maybe I’ll just log in and will be available for anyone to zoom in. I’m not sure yet, but I’ll figure it out.
Ultimately, we will work together to ensure you have the best learning experience possible in these unusual circumstances.
Please take care of yourselves and let me know if you have any questions.
We’re in the uncharted parts of the map now…….
Okie dokie, guess we won’t need all those ‘diversity deans’ & ‘social justice advocates’ & ‘gender counselors’ & ‘grievance grifters’ anymore, will we?
Could prolly cut tuition by a good 95% to 98%, eh?
Beuller? Beuller? Anyone out there?……
UW Madison, with some 44,000 students, just told ’em “Yer taking spring break early. Go away. When you come back, stay away.” Tele-learning will be the new norm. The Agri/Vet school is gonna have a fun time…
Canoecopia the “world’s largest paddlesports expo” just canceled. It was gonna start tomorrow. Oh, well.
Yep, my daughter finally got notice tonight. They’re extending spring break and going to remote learning starting March 23 for remainder of semester.
I said to wife tonight while at Costco, who laughing now about all the TP stacked in the pantry?
Found everything at Costco I was looking except for boneless chicken, sold completely out. Did notice the lack of toilet paper and Kirkland brand 40 packs of water, even though I was not there to buy any.
I was up at Costco today and the rice was completely gone, Spam was decimated, and Mac & Cheese was absent. I peer into the deep stocks in my basement and laugh…………..
Yep, same here!!!
Now you mentioned it, I did notice the rice gone as well.
It may get very interesting before it’s over, we’re defiantly in uncharted waters for our country. I saw Trump say today we could even see travel restrictions within the U.S. It’s starting to look more and more like the movie, Contagion.
My wife’s CC said they’re going fully online for the rest of the semester following spring break (starting Saturday). She’s taking a biology course with once a week meeting at the cadaver lab. This ought to be interesting….
I can sum up the email from my employer like this, you better keep working until you fall over. Infect as many as possible until you die.
At least that’s how I read it…..
There were some bright spots as well, Hey! we will waive copay for a china virus test! Lucky you!
I have some news for them, I don’t need the job that bad.
I’m waiting to see what happens when Disney/Universal/etc. shut down. I want to see what Dizznie comes up with as an online virtual theme park experience, it should be interesting.
Yesterday Ohio closed all schools statewide for 3 weeks minimum and the Dept of Health announced they project atleast 100,000 cases of WuFlu currently in the state. Most grocery stores are rationing what stock they have left. Strange times.
My State system just extended spring break for another week and are planning on switching everything to remote except labs. They are also going to be closing the dorms so I’m not sure how they expect people who don’t already live in the area to go to lab classes. I don’t think they have though everything through yet.
Our province just extended March Break until April 4 and all the universities and colleges are now just doing online classes.
I went into the local supermarket this morning to pick up a couple of non-essential things that I hadn’t bothered to stock. After picking up the items I wanted, I looked around and saw a lady taking 12 large containers of Downy. And in another aisle, I saw a guy accusing the store manager of creating shortages so he could jack up prices. Strange days indeed…
BTW Commander, thanks for the tip about the LDS. The other day I took an inventory, then went down and picked up a few things I was a little light on. 👍
