Just fanning the flames of panic buying

Its hard to believe that December is actually here. Where the heck did the year go? Probably the most important thing to note is that there is less than a year until the election. Take nothing for granted, mi amigos… sure, the Democrats are scraping the bottom of the barrel but you can’t make your plans on what might happen. You have to be prepared for worst case scenarios. So… hie thee to your favorite internet vendor and load up on mags.

I lost count, but I think that for YTD I’m at something like … uhm…16 guns added to the stable this year. (Including…wait for it…three more P95DC pistols and another PC9 carbine.)

As Beto O’Dork forthrightly said “Hell, yes, we’re going to take your AR-15, your AK-47” and although he appears to have politically shot himself in the foot, he didn’t say anything that the other Democrats weren’t fine n’ dandy with.

So, for me, it makes sense to have a bit of a stockpile built up. I’d recommend you do the same. And if you’re one of those short-sighted simpletons who say “I’ve got ten magazines for my AR-15… thats plenty”, well, you’re an idiot. Stop being an idiot and do some thinking about how ten magazines to last you for the rest of your life is amazingly short-sighted to the point of idiocy.

2020 is going to be an interesting year, if for no other reason than because of that election. In fact, virtually every single thing that happens between January 1 2020 and Election Day, no matter how politically irrelevant, will be looked at through the lens of how it will affect the election. Putin invades Ukraine? How will it affect the election. Polar ice caps melt? How will it affect the election? The animated corpse that is Ruth Ginsburg finally comes to a halt? How will that affect the election? Xenu arrives? How will it….you get the idea. Get used to it, because all of 2020 will be like one year-long Super Bowl pregame show.

Im sitting at a point where, if the axe finally falls, and They reinstate the ’94 Ban I’ll be okay. Of course, the likelihood of them having a grandfathering provision in any new ban is pretty shaky, and having a sunset clause is pretty much fantasy. But, if I woke up tomorrow and whatever I had tomorrow was all I could have for the rest of my life…I’d be okay. But I strive to be more than ‘okay’, and so should you.

Anyway, that’s my ‘the sky is falling’ post on the subject for now. I’m sure I’ll revisit it a time or two before the election…especially if some nutjob shoots up a WalMart somewhere before then.

  1. I’m thinking Trump should show some class and publicly say that this close to the election, it would not be right to select the next Supreme Court RBG successor until after the next election occurs. That was the argument made for delaying Obama (yeah, I know he was a lame duck at the time, but …). Just to give RBG the okay to bow out gracefully, rather than hold out with every ounce of energy to stay as long as possible.

Definitely on magazines and ammunition. 2A mentions none of these specifically (they didn’t exist at the time) so making those items ridiculously expensive or non existent is definitely possible. If you are into reloading – primers, and store them correctly for long term. Cases can be scrounged and bullets can be cast, but primers ?

    • True re primers in one scenario. But in a Boogaloo, there will be some free primers laying around with weapons attached if you survive contact enough times.

    • “…publicly say that this close to the election, it would not be right to select the next Supreme Court RBG successor until after the next election occurs”

That may be classy but it gains him nothing. They hate him & they hate us. Acquiescing to them will of soften the relationship. They’ve declared war on our existence. I see no actual down-side to going ahead & appointing a new justice.

      • “…publicly say that this close to the election, it would not be right to select the next Supreme Court RBG successor until after the next election occurs”

No, We go down fighting!!! That’s the problem, when in a street fight, Queensberry rules don’t apply!!!

    • No No No re old ginsburg. Take what you can get when you can, because when (not if) the democrats take the presidency again, they are going to add as many new SCOTUS justices as it takes (11, 13, etc). to get a liberal majority again.

  2. Ms. Keel had the Last Word on nagazines several years ago – “Q: How many magazines do I need? A: More.”

  3. What is the correct (minimum) number of magazines to own? Is it a function of the number of firearms you own?

If you have one AR and 10 magazines, I’d probably agree that’s too few. But if you own 10 ARs and 100 magazines–that’s 10 magazines per rifle, but a sufficient total quantity. That said, clearly more is always better.

    • TheOtherRyan @ Total Survivalist used to post about this from time to time (man I miss that guy’s blog). He’s a friend of CZ’s so maybe he will see and comment. I always found that he and Zero have excellent lines of thinking.

      • Hey, Its Ryan. I look at it as a ratio. I want 10 mags per core pistol and 20 per core rifle. So if I buy a new rifle I should order the mags (and ammo, etc) to go with it.

That said at some point I worry about it a bit less. If a guy owns 1 rifle with 20 mags and buys a second rifle his ratio is now 1/10. If a guy owns 10 rifles with 200 mags and buys rifle 11 he probably doesn’t need to freak out and can order the mags at his leisure.

FWIW I am looking hard at ordering a few more mags and some spare parts plus ammo in the next 3 months or so.

    • The correct number is N+1 where N equals your current number of magazines. 😂😂😂😂

      • Since you ask:

While I have no problem with P-Mags, I personally prefer aluminum USGI-style magazines. Brownells is running a 12% off deal today for Cyber Monday (code: WBN)–extended one day to Tuesday (12/3). They are also running a sale on their excellent aluminum AR-15 30 round magazines with Magpul anti-tilt followers. The sale and the discount code bring the price down to $9.67 per magazine when ordering 10.

I own * ahem * a few of these magazines, and they are absolutely flawless. If you like steel/aluminum magazines, you should jump all over this.

  4. It’s not only that you might need X magazines at at given moment ( frankly it’s highly doubtful you would survive a gunfight if you had to reload 10 times ) but these will become instant trade items or get some bucks items if they are banned or restricted. I do find it curious though that 8 years of Obama reign he never tried to impose such a ban even though he clearly didn’t like guns of pretty much any type. He must have felt, or was advised, that this might result in political suicide.

    • It’s also possible that one could lose or drop a magazine on purpose in a fight and not be able to recover it.

  5. I don’t particularly like the fact that all new magazines have manufacturing date codes imprinted on them. I suppose it’s probably necessary for quality control purposes, but at the same time, it seems to be opening a door to a future magazine ban with a grandfather clause.

    • That presupposes that any future magazine ban will have a grandfather clause. Additionally, if it did have a grandfather clause, then wouldn’t you want the magazines to be clearly marked in such a manner as to make their pre-ban status clear?

      • This week, Washington state politicians are attempting to impose bans on assault rifles, any rifle which can hold more than ten rounds of ammunition. Banning magazines of more than ten rounds and ammo purchasing background checks. It’s unclear what is grandfathered. California ammo background checks recently suspended many ammo sales because law enforcement does not have the resources.
