Gun hoarding

:::sigh::: I still seem to be singlehandedly waging a War On The War On Guns…. it’s gotten to the point that even people who didn’t bat an eye when I had…’a lot’…of guns are now saying things like “they’re taking over your house”. I feel like I’m heading for an episode of ‘Hoarders: The Ballistic Edition’.

In reality, it isn’t that bad. The main crux of the issue is that I’ve just gotta pick up the guns laying around, box them up , and tuck them into the Deep Sleep. Certainly, thats what I need to do with the dozen Ruger P95’s I’ve got sitting here. (And the three matching PC9 carbines that go with them.)

I’ve long thought that I need to pick up a couple large Pelican rifle cases, drop an AR, 870, 10/22, and a Glock in each one and tuck ’em away…sort of an ‘in case of apocalypse, break glass’ kinda thing.

I still believe, with utter conviction, that 1994 Assault Weapons Ban: The Next Generation is brewing and will be served at some point…maybe next year, maybe in ten years…but I have utterly no doubt it’s going to happen. I’d like to be in a position to take financial advantage of it when it does and that means a big ‘ol box of stripped lowers and a couple footlockers of Pmags.

But, in the meantime, if it’s gotten to the point that even ballistically-minded people are starting to say “Dude, you’ve got guns all over the place” then perhaps it is indeed time to do a gun roundup and get these things put away.

  1. Guns are a ‘hard’ asset and gain about 15%/yr in value so one could think of it as an investment. Properly cared for they will last past our life time. I have a feeling when Trump vacates DC and whoever takes his place are going to put things into affect that are going to turn the values WAY up. Buy cheap stack deep.

The latest concern is the so called red flag statutes that are being thrown around. Someone drops a dime on a gunowner and falsely states they professed a desire to shoot things up. Next thing you know the strong boys are fast roping into the back yard with no warrant, probable cause or due process and poof, the collection is gone. Gotta order that flamethrower.

  2. Simple answer to the age old question – “How many is too many”? Simple answer – “One more than you already have”.
On Guns – If you can’t supply every patriot in your county with a gun of whatever caliber and style they chose – you don’t have enough!
On Ammo – If you can load up a one ton dually flatbed truck with a a single caliber of every the gun you have, and the tires ain’t flat – you don’t have enough!
Just saying – BLOAT – The games are a comin!

  3. The problem is that I see the next ban as having a prohibition on possession and transfer, maybe with grandfather for prepossessed weapons, maybe not. However, prepossessed weapons will not be permitted to be transferred.

There may even be a confiscation (oops, I mean mandatory buy back).

    • That was my 1st thought too. Theres PLENTY of room there +on the walls for MOAR even before you rearrange for space.

Some people collect worthless things. Others Invest.

  4. What’s is the plan if govt decides to limit ammo instead of bullets? I imagine you have a lot of ammo stored up but maybe? (Idk) not enough to put with guns to sell. It always seemed to me that ammo is the place to ban if govt wants to limit freedom and security that guns provide.

    • I would imagine that people would put more of an emphasis on reloading if that were the case.

    • I’m thinking a ban on mail order ammo would be their first move. It would be a fairly easy bureaucratic maneuver to restrict the shipping of such a “dangerous” item. Followed by ammo components, of course.

  5. To expand on Divemedic’s point, have you done the math on how many clumsy canoe trips on how many random lakes and rivers it will take to avoid collecting a stack of search warrants?

    • Chuck, you are assuming that “warrants” will be involved, in any way. As you and I understand the term, I wonder if it is becoming an antique, along with “private property”, “unreasonable search and seizure”, and “free speech”.

Interesting times threaten, for certain values of “interesting”.

  6. BP, what is you retirement plan?

    Oh, I invest in metals.

Oh? So what do you see in future for Gold?

Oh, I’m not into Gold. Mostly Stainless Steel, Copper, Lead, some Aluminum. Oh and a little Silver. I’ve got a 500% return on my best investment, some German and Belgian Steel and Plastics.

Really? So what are you looking for in the future?

(Leans in and whispers) Pelican and Hardigg. It’s gonna be big. Almost as big as the backhoe rental industry. But you didn’t hear it from me. *wink*

  7. ” I’d like to be in a position to take financial advantage of it when it does”. And I have not one whit of criticism for this sentence. Things are so so much cheaper than the run up and during the 94 ban. IF YOU COULD EVEN FIND ANYTHING. I note Palmetto has a deal on AR mags 10 each GI aluminum and Magpul for 150 bucks. With shipping around 8 bux each. Ammo is the same. Quality and cheap- .28-60 cents a round in all you want. I remember not finding anything but Shit Russian steel case .223 for over 6 months. Those that don’t partake now because the Harley needs a new back tire or the wife wants to go on a 10 day cruise will be the first to scream bloody murder you are a SOB for “gouging”. fookum. I bought mine at market price, you do the same now. That is Capitalism and its great. And just a note, Cheaper Than Scum did jack prices up to 100 bucks per AR mag. But that is NOT why they are a trash outfit. They canceled orders placed before the increase and claimed out of stock, all the while listing the 100 dollar mags. That is a dick move that caused a lot of us to never do business with them again. And I never will again. That is again Capitalism.

    • NOG

To your comment on shit Russian steel ammo I personally have never had a single issue with shooting such out of any of my AR platforms. I agree the stuff is dirty, but shoots fine. In fact I shot a legitimate 100 yard 3 shot 1 1/2 group with Russian Silver Bear .308 zinc case out of my M1A- Socom. I was surprised of course and it only cost .42/round. I can hardly reload .308 for that price.
Now if you have a beef with buying Anything Russian because Putin is nasty I get that, but performance wise the stuff works. And right now it’s cheap. Stock it for barter if you don’t like to shoot it.

      • This is back in 1993. For six months no 223 or 5.56 except one Academy store (in Houston) house brand Monarch (it was relabeled Barnual). The 223 was undersized and at 25 yards it would keyhole. Perfect profile of the slug. I had 300rds, still have some but I never pulled and replaced the bullet. I recall that a lot of Russian US calibers were undersized back then. Now the Russian ammo in my WASR (sold) and my hog gun SKS were good to go with my 2 favorite 7.62X39 rounds China (marked non corrosive but was- no longer imported a shame) and Barrnual. I hear the Russians have improved their US calibers to date, but we don’t shoot steel case in our ARs or the wife’s Mini (now sold) so no personal experience with current quality.

  8. Interesting reading here. From where I sit it would be hard for me to believe that any administration, deep left/lib or not, could pass any sort of prohibition on semi auto ( ie; the dreaded AR/AK types ) rifles when even the anti gun Obama admin was unable to do so when they had the helm for 8 years. Mr. O never even proposed anything close to such talk, other than we have to do “ something “ after any tragic mass shooting. Even early on when the Dems controlled both houses they didn’t even get to reinstate the 1994 assault gun ban. So not to say we should not be vigilant and all that and oppose of course any foul legislation to that effect. But it’s never bad to grab up the goodies when the getting is good ( and relatively cheap ).

    • “From where I sit it would be hard for me to believe that any administration, deep left/lib or not, could pass any sort of prohibition on semi auto”. Mistake in thinking here. Things are different now. They could not at that time in history, but with all the new import demoncrap voters (yes NRA, immigration does matter), we may never see a conservative “serving” in government. If the dems have a lock on ALL future elections, they have no worries about banning anything and everything. Think about this- they stack the SCOTUS with 20 more Ginsbergs. They pack all the district courts with Obozo worshipers. They control everything from now on……..at least until the deplorable fly over people wake the hell up and start the festivities. You best believe it could happen. Who thought Texas would turn blue? It is happening right now. I really need to move, but I’m just too old.

  9. Walmart has announced it’s no longer selling short barreled rifle and handgun ammo and it’s discontinuing handgun sales in AK… Stock up if you haven’t already. It’s just gonna spread…

    Regards
