So the forecast is for another cold and icily windy weekend. Im heading up to CostCo tomorrow for monthly purchase items, but food ain’t one of ’em. I could lock the doors, not leave the house for a year, and be just fine in terms of food.
Its weekends like this, where the wind howls and rattles the windows, that I appreciate being able to walk into my kitchen and have everything on hand, on the shelves and in the freezers, to make pretty much whatever the hell I want. Its a good feeling.
Anyway, it’s up to CostCo tomorrow for bulk things like a half dozen jugs of laundry detergent, some batteries, and the usual odds and ends that I like to keep on hand in large quantities.
Once that trip to CostCo is done, though…I’m parking the car and not going anywhere until Monday. There’s not much reward in taking unnecessary risks. I’d rather discover Im out of milk and live without it for three days than have to pay for a wrecker and a new car, y’know?
And, interestingly, I received a gift certificate from CostCo as part of their cashback program on the CostCo Visa card. I bought a truckload of 10/22 magazines last year for sale to you guys and I used that card to pay for them, so…there’s going to be a free case of chicken in my shopping cart.
And, since its going to be a weekend of high temps around 0, this’ll probably be the weekend I defrost the freezer.
What about you? Cold enough in your neck of the woods to make staying home a better idea than driving around?
Not super cold but slippery roads and snow/rain/sleet is enough to keep me home lol.
We got absolutely nailed with snow yesterday and last night, so I’m holding off going anywhere until a little later in the morning.
It looks like we missed the worst of the cold, it’s 10 degrees and warming fairly quickly.
I’ve never regretted changing around my life and moving to a place (fairly compact city of 70k) where driving is completely optional.
rainy dreary day friday ended with ice, but warming up today. front coming in sunday with heavy rain turning to snow in the upper reaches just in time for my trip across the mountain to work, joy joy john spartan. this is going on two years of excessive rain. one weekend since october 1 without precip. thankful it all hasn’t been snow tho, and glad we missed last years minus 20 week. going to wire in a new inverter today, and test my new quiet generator out. lost power in an ice storm couple weeks ago and inverter took a crap. prepper fail extraordinaire. been an expensive winter, lol.
Cold and windy here, just to your west a bit. But making the drive to the airport to pick up my boy and a Costco stop on the way. Food shortage takes on a whole different approach with a 16 year old “locust” in the house!
I go out once a month. That’s it in winter. Make my run to the store for supplies and a haircut.Try to get in early when there are less people about. We are in the midst of cold and flu season so it pays to just semi-hibernate. After being down and bedridden for the entire month of October in 2015 I learned my lesson. Going to be cold here for the first part of the coming week. But there are some signs of Spring. The Sandhill cranes have been back for a week and yesterday I saw a Starling at the suet feeder. Still no Robin’s. That is the real cincher. When they show up.
Waiting on a 6 to 10 inch strom tomorrow night. Did manage yo get my hands on a CZ Scorpion, will add ability to suppress it and. Need extra mags and a shockwave brace. Got a good deal on it, worth going out for it.
60s and sunny today…rain and cold weather returning tomorrow…teens at night by mid-week…been taste testing different brands of canned corned beef hash…some good…some bad…one ugly….it has taken some courage…
I’m in Hawaii for 10 days. “Nuff said”….
😀
Was able to get out and do some snowshoeing in the Big Hole area, even though the snow conditions were terrible. I was using 30″ Yubas and still sinking well past my knees. I guess that means I’m gonna have to get the 36″ Tubbs I’ve had my eye on. I did get a nice fox though, so the trip was worth it. Just shy of 200 yards with a suppressed Ruger American Ranch in 5.56. Maybe I’ll turn it into a parka ruff, I’m not sure yet. It worked out nicely that I was able to drop it off at the tannery as I went through town on my way home. I had to hire a guy with a huge professional 8′ snowblower to punch open my drifted road up the Blackfoot, so I guess a tractor mounted snowblower is in my future. Anyhow, hopefully spring is right around the corner.
No signs of spring here yet. Depending on reports 5-8″ or 6-12″ of snow for tomorrow night. Been in the single digits at night for weeks now. Still have about 10 cords stacked outside, but my wood crib in the basement is down to about a 1/4 cord. Nothing sweeter than grabbing some firewood in your skivvies and stuffing the wood stove during a blizzard!
Up in the Great White North it varies from -21C to -35C over the weekend. Mostly stayed home and hugged my furnace.
