There is a LOT of turkey, Butterballs marked down 50%, going into the freezer this week. I actually had to do some shuffling around to fit them all in there. Vacuum sealer is getting a workout. Yay turkey!
And thats just the first trip to the store…..

got to be some of the best and lowest price source of protein, and it tastes good to boot! Wonder if they would cut it up for customers?
When I’m at the meat aisle I actually think “Whats the cheapest protein here?”. Hint: its NEVER beef. 99% of the time the answer is ‘chicken’.
Picked up 3 birds@$.39# with some other deals(canned veg/butter) on a minimum purchase deal. Chicken 1/4s $.29# this week, freezer will be maxed out. Stay thrifty
It really only happens around Thanksgiving
When I started buying on sale to get my goal of “six months of everyday meat”. it was 95% chicken. As I bought more beef and pork, that dwindled to the point I’m getting harassed by the boss for never being able to eat chicken. But at least I NEVER have to buy turkey, which I hate, as the freezer stays full from other meat sales. I know, to each their own. And prices look to be going up so I’ll eventually be stuck with too much chicken again. But far better than NO meat for dinner.
“But I never have to buy turkey, which I hate….” Knew a guy in the restaurant business once who said, “If a customer asks for a chicken sandwich, and we had turkey, he got a chicken sandwich, and vis-versa.”
I have never seen turkey packed ‘meat counter’ style like that. More than a bit jealous.
