Where to put the money

What would you sink money into IF you were inclined to put away something for that future ban specifically for resale? I lean towards items that are cheap enough to let me buy lots of them, and that will turnover quickly…like AR mags. (You can check more than one item on this list)

    • I don’t understand how a gun ban increases the price on chocolate and toilet paper.

  1. whole rifles. last time they went up by 500 percent here. thats way more than mag or any other item on the list. i made a bit on excess lowers last time but chump change compared to full rifles. i have been putting them back ever since. when, not if, they get banned i’m set.

    • Glock an AR mags were selling for well over 500% during the last ban!! I was buying GI AR 30rd mags for 6.00 dollars a piece per-ban. They were selling between 70.00 and 100.00 during the ban. That is over 1500% difference. Glock magazines where around 12.00 each pre-ban, and were selling north of 100.00 during the ban! That’s between 900 and 1000% difference. So, magazine will give you the best rate of return and there are no serial numbers to tie them back to you or the sale!!!

      • mags weren’t going anywhere near that high here. it looked like the buyers didn’t care if they could get mags, they just wanted an ar. local gun shop saw people taking out home equity loans to get their hands on one. mags were going 30 to 50 bucks tops. i stocked up a few this time too though. i always laugh when a guy buys a rifle, two mags and 5 boxes of ammo and thinks he’s ready. happens more often than not around here.

  2. Hands down, ammunition. If a ban on firearms happens, ammunition will also become far more controlled and as Carrioncrow points out so well, you only have so much of it.

Even rimfire, everybody and their dog has at least one of those in their homes.

    • I dunno. Last time they tried a ban they pretty much left the ammo alone. That doesn’t mean they won’t bend it in the future, it’s just that the precedent so far shows that they kind of leave it alone.

      • True, but that was the 1990’s and we’ve gained far more ‘evil black rifles’ in the interum (que Carl Sagan ‘Billions and billions). Even if the sale of them were banned, tons of them in circulation.

Rationing ammunition makes that moot – all firearms are effected. Plus making powder and bullets (From Scratch) is tough, unless you are content with black powder and lead ammunition.

Its just my guess how it plays. I could be way wrong.

All I know is I was one of those dumb suckers who paid $45 for a full capacity G21 magazine. THREE extra rounds for an additional $30 (10 round for $15 iirc) – not such a deal, but that was the game, I paid for my stupidity. Bush the 2nd let the ban sunset and happy days were here again.

      • What about the 22lr and other ammo drought that occured during the obama administration? No ban, just no ammo available. I am not sure what direction to take so I am going to add ammo.

  3. Dear Commander: despite abundant evidence to the contrary, my plans assume that Team Big Gov is trainable, and will eventually realize that The Scary talismans of Death (that you and I see as guns) are considerably less useful without ammo.

  4. For resale, I would put aside ammo, mags, and maybe other accessories i.e. sights and pistol grips if they talk about them…
I don’t like putting aside complete guns, or lowers, for resale for (possible) legal reasons.
In particular, I would only stockpile items that I could use if I didn’t or couldn’t sell them – for example, I am not an AR guy, so I would not stockpile AR mags or components.
During the last ‘crisis’, I had some items I tried to sell at what were relatively reasonable prices but couldn’t get any bites – the only inquiries I got were from people who wanted to pay less than pre-crisis levels.

    • This seems contrary… “I would put aside ammo, mags, and maybe other accessories i.e. sights and pistol grips if they talk about them…
I don’t like putting aside complete guns, or lowers, for resale for (possible) legal reasons.”

If they ban ammo or mags or other accessories, then arent those also in the same class as the guns and lowers that you dont want to put back? Put another way, if you don’t stock up on the lowers and guns for legal reasons, wont there also be legal reasons no to stock up on those other things?

      • In the long run, yes, but in this scenario I’m not looking that far out (or at possible criminality). Short term, I don’t expect legal issues with buying and selling ammo, mags, etc. If there are any new restrictions on them, there would likely be grandfather clauses to them – contrast this to possible private sale bans on guns or banning transfer at all as some states have done. There is also the potential problem of entrapment or other buyer caused problems.
If everything falls apart, things will be different but at that point I’d be unlikely to sell anything I have – I’d reserve it for the use of me and mine or known like minded individuals.

For the purposes of this discussion, I’m looking at easy to buy and resell items – it is one thing to buy items at $20 or $40 for possible future resale; it is a different thing to buy items at $500 for possible future resale.

  5. I voted for 10/22 mags as one option. I’d do a mix of the bulletproof 10 rounders as well as the newest version of the BX25’s.

    Best

  6. I checked complete lowers because there wasn’t a spot for parts. AR lower parts will worth their weight in gold someday.

  7. Thanks solely to President DJT, SCOTUS has been restored to sanity. God willing, we won’t see another “gun ban” in this lifetime.

  8. Commander:
I put my two cents worth towards complete guns.
My thinking was that even if “Joe Average” has an AR 15, does he have the skill to fit it with a receiver?
As long as he has something to trade, I can sell him a firearm –
It’s up to him how good he is with it…
