Linkage, the sheep look up

  • This looks highly interesting: http://www.sunmeadow.net/hot_meals.html – A self-heat meal I was previously unaware of. Looking for all the world like a ‘self heat’ out of an Axler book.
  • Wiggys makes and sells poncho liners and theyre on sale
  • Interesting and overpriced can organizer…but you could crib the design if youre the DIY type
  • Other powdered eggs to try…seems a good price if its a decent product. Someone try it and get bac k to me.
  • A survival site

In New Orleans, Self-Sufficiency Is the Theme

Highlights:
“People are doing themselves a disservice if they think the governmentis going to take care of them,” said Phyllis Parun, a New Orleanscommunity activist who Wednesday organized a workshop on hurricanepreparedness in her Bywater neighborhood, and got the American RedCross to lead it. “It’s fend-for-yourself time.”

Theres an old joke that a Conservative is a Liberal who got mugged. Perhaps a survivalist is sheeple that spent a night in the Guantanodome. Hey, whatever it takes….the more people feel independent of .gov’s teat the better off we all are.

  1. I’ve been using their eggs and milk sustitute for all sorts of things. I think they’re a genuine bargain in the #10 can world. They make yummy pancakes, breakfast tacos, and do well for fried rice. I have not yet tried my ultimate test, which is to make a full on roast beef and Yorkshire pudding. I actually posted about where I was getting the eggs, then forgot to follow up. Sorry ’bout that.

  2. Wow, was just talking to a Mormon buddy of mine yesterday about preparedness, and he went on a whole rant about how the point is not to have a year’s worth of wheat and beans stashed away in a closet, but to just do your shopping in advance, and continuelly eat off of your stock to keep it rotated. Then he told me about how his uncle built a massive pantry rack out of scrap metal, with sloped shelves and a lip to hold standard sized cans. It’s simpler than the FIFO, doesn’t have the zig-zag track, just fill from one side and eat from the other. In either case, I’m glad to see the idea becoming common.

  3. The self heating soup looks like they licensed the OnTech method, which works pretty well. (I had an overpriced self heating coffee just to see how well it worked and it was pretty good for a coffee drink in a can. 😀 )

    The tech is pretty neat:

Interestingly enough, they offer a simular line of products, for about the same price… Hmmmmmmm….. 🙂

  4. Clearly, your friend will never know the pleasure of building forts in the basement out of cases of canned food and stacks of buckets. :>

  5. self heats

use calcium oxide and water to produce the heat. as for cans, mark them with month and year, example febuary 2006 is 0206; use always oldest cans first, fresher cans last.

being prepared myself for the worst lets me sleep better at nights. but am really glad as long as the worst don’t happen, at least am not going to be in a panic waiting unprepared for FEMA to show up, if ever.

maybe the government is hinting that it is deep into the red, therefore the party is over, folks. Wildflower 06

  6. The quote from a long time ago was: “A neoconservative is a liberal who got mugged.” Neoconservatives (circa 1980s) were often formed liberals.

Since then the quote has morphed into “a conservative is a liberal who was mugged.”

Got a case arriving on Wednesday, I’ll let you know how they are. I’m pretty hopeful; been buying from Honeyville for a while, and have had great luck with their food storage products. Can be worthwhile to sign up with them even if you don’t order right away; they send out special offers every couple months.
