Hmmm…MGE Wholesale is showing the Magpul Glock mags at $11.53, and the OEM Glocks are showing at CDNN for $19.99. Now, I really hate to get into math but thats..uh..around 40% cheaper. Or, put another way, for five Glock mags you could get eight Magpuls and darn close to nine if you had an extra couple ‘a ones in your pocket.
But..if they’re not reliable then they’re no bargain even if free…so I still need to go shoot them a bit. But the economics is pretty promising. I’m very much looking forward to the Magpul happysticks for the Glock. Those will sell amazingly well, I think.
I bought a few of the Magpul Glock mags to try out, so far so good. FWIW.
I like them better than the KCI or Khan knockoff ones. Loading them by hand, things just feel more smooth as the follower gets pushed down on the Magpuls than the Korean knockoffs, although the Korean ones seem to function fine as well.
I’ve had bad experiences across the board with the Korean mags in .40. In 9mm they’ve been so-so performers. They’re what makes me cautious about other non-OEM Glock mags.
Any thoughts on mag brand for .223/5.56? Got my first AR15 recently. (Woohoo!)
I suppose the Pmags are okay, but I’ve never really liked plastic mags. I like aluminum GI mags. CProducts were my go to mags for that sort of thing.
For AR 556/223 mags, I like the PMags and Troy battlemags the best. I still have a bunch of metal USGI types too, and they’re ok. The Troy battlemags are the same exterior dimensions as the USGI mags, at least close enough so that you can fit a pair of them in a double-mag pouch like you could with USGI mags. That’s the only downside I have with the PMags, is that they’re a little larger.
I don’t really shoot steel-cased 556 anymore, but when I did, I noticed there is a lot more friction involved in sliding a steel-cased round in and out of a metal USGI mag than there is in a PMag or other polymer magazine. This didn’t cause me any malfunctions with steel rounds in the USGI mag, but it made downloading (needed for a class) a USGI mag really hard.
Brass-cased rounds in a USGI mag offer less friction to getting the round in and out than do steel-cased rounds.
Reading Comments on Midway USA, Magpul Glock Magazines not working well when dirty from Competition, dirt or sand in magazines. Just FYI
Man, you keep, teasing me with the MGE prices on the Magpul Glock mags. I’m not a dealer, have no FFL. Sigh…
Go make friends with someone who has one.
