Looks like everyone just found something new for their bugout bag:
Ruger SR-556 Takedown Autoloading Rifle
Holy crap is Ruger going to sell a ton of these. …. until the .308 comes out, and then its gonna sell even more.
I’ll wait a few years to allow the traditional Ruger new-product recall to occur, then I’m going to be on board in a big way.
$2000. ouuuchhh…but I loves me some takedowns. It’s like a gun-based transformer 🙂
The Ruger SR-556 I picked up was $750 (Had 500 rnds via rentals put through it) and it’s amazing. Recoils like a kitten, puts rounds on target like a lazer. And I’m not that good 😉
You have no idea how happy I was to get home, look up the retail price of it and realize the cost savings *grin*
Have there been any recalls for anything in their AR line yet?
I don’t know, actually. I’d be surprised if there wasn’t. I should go check.
I dunno – how is it any different/better than a regular AR with the takedown pins popped for my GHB?
Though I suppose that “easy replaceable barrel to a different caliber” would be a selling point to many, though how many different barrels am I carrying in that aforementioned GHB on the off chance that I might find some .300BLK before the zombie hordes overrun me.
An AR with the barrel removed from the upper is far more compact than an AR upper with the barrel attached. I cant fit a non-takedown upper into my backpack discreetly…it appears this I can.
In regard to recalls for Ruger ARs – this was the only thing I found
“We have determined that the disconnector in the two-stage trigger system on some of our SR-556VTâ„¢ modern sporting rifles was not properly heat treated by a vendor and that the disconnector in those rifles can wear prematurely.”

Honestly, I’ve never really understood the appeal of “take-downs”. Is it really that useful? I can sort of see it for something like a shotgun or a 22lr, but a full power rifle? In what context does that become worth thousands of dollars?
