This is why we can’t have nice things

Man, every time I think that things might be quieting down in the land of panic buying and going long on magazines, something new happens.

Given the pre-convention jockeying and positioning of potential presidential contenders, I have no doubt that this will all play into future campaigning. Promises to eliminate ‘easy access’ to fire arms, eliminate ‘assault weapons’, ban ‘high capacity’ magazines, etc.

If I had the money, I’d be on the phone right now to CDNN and ordering Glock, 10/22, and AR mags. And even if this most recent event doesn’t wind up being responsible for any changes, the upcoming political season is still a good reason all on its own.

For those keeping track, the last time a racist shot up a large captive audience we wound up with an assault weapons ban nine months later.

  1. I hope that reasons prevails in Congress with the GOP majority, but they will probably wimp out. What is more likely, is the President will do it by Executive Order.

    • If Obama could “do it by Executive Order” he would have already done it. Hell, Clinton would have done it. That’s not how Executive Orders work. The President can’t just issue an order with the force of law. Obama has issued a large number of anti-gun EOs, and they were all trivial flea-bites like the ban on steel-core 5.45mm ammo and the ban on imports from Russia.

  2. This is part of the reason there is a bit of prepper logic in “firearms first”. No one will ban my purchase of rice, beans and first aid supplies. But Lord only knows what next month will be like for guns and ammo.

    • Thats pretty much what I’ve been saying. Get the ‘likely to be regulated out of existence’ stuff first and then focus on the non-controversial stuff.

  3. I am glad I pulled the trigger on a FAL (DS Arms Voyager 21″), twenty mags and enough ammo to load it all up in the last couple days.

Should get a parts kit for my birthday. Will buy more mags and ammo piece mil as finances allow.

Would like to find a way to buy a stripped lower, to make a budget but decent back up rifle, a dozen Glock mags, and about 4 more 10/22 mags. Also maybe a case each of 7.62×51 and 5.56.

  4. I have a suggestion regarding the “no firearms allowed” signs.
When you put up one of those hateful signs, you take responsibility for the safety of everyone in your building, and thus you should have strict responsibility for every instance of violence in your building. Thus, only if you can guarantee that there will be no violence in your building should ypu be allowed to put up that hateful sign.
If this strict responsibiliity is signed into law you wont be able to afford the insurance for your building if you put this sign up. This will result in only courthouses, prisons and a few other federal or government buildings will be “gun free zones” and those will have metal detectors and security people around making it actually gun free.

    • i just carry anyway, just hide it better. i try to stay away from the feds et al.

      • I refuse to do business with businesses that have these signs and policies!

    • My local theater had those signs on every entry door just above the horizontal push handle. The next time I went to see a movie after the Aurora theater shooting I noticed that the signs were all gone. They had pulled them off and put one each on the far left and right doors down by the floor were you could hardly see them.

The message was pretty clear. They wanted CCW holders in there but couldn’t outright say so. It’s the only theater I’ll patronize now.

  5. my ffl got a visit from our friendly, not, atf agent. she gathered records on all the active duty military only. either she plans on cross referencing ptsd claims, or transfers to non permissive states. either way, there is no longer any question in my mind that my govt has no use for us, nor i for them….as to the current bruha, i’m well stocked, having learned from 1994, to the point of planning on making a few bucks at the gun show.

  6. As soon as I heard what happened, I bought 4 more M&P9 mags, 800 rds of Winchester 9mm NATO (the hot stuff), and 200 rds of Fiocchi .223 69gr. These are things I had been considering anyway. And added to an already decent stash. Now I whether to get another PTR or not. That Squad Carbine looks pretty cool.

  7. At a (sort of) local gun store I found brisk business Saturday. Yes there was a sale but I rarely had seen it so packed, darn near SRO. New (not police trade in but new) DPMS ARs could be had for $488… I can’t build rifles that cheap. 20 rd boxes of 223 were $8… I got a couple hundred extra rounds, if there is a panic buy… the prices weren’t showing it.
