AH, I know,,,it seems like we just got through taking down the decorations from the last Paratus. Yet, here we are!
So, first off, Happy Paratus to everyone. About 40 people made the list for cards/gifts this year. If you didn’t get a Paratus card, have no fear…here’s this years card:
Did I get myself anything for Paratus? Well, not really….but trust me, I’ve spent enough on myself this year that it more than makes up for not buying myself a gift. Really, I spent way too much on boomtoys and whisperpickles this year. I suspect that is something that will rapidly be coming to a middle here shortly as I try to put money together for other purposes.
I hope YOU had a happy (and safe) Paratus. And I hope you got to spend Paratus the way it was meant to be spent – getting cool gear and hanging out with your like-minded friends discussing the upcoming kamalapocalypse. But feel free to tell me in comments how you made it in the gift department and if you did anything special. It is, after all, your holiday.
“Paratus” is a daily lifestyle around these parts, not a once a year reminder of what people should be doing everyday.
Bah Humbug!
Sending a card to the UK wasnt cost effective.
It’s still cheaper than send them in the UK.
Global Forever stamp costs $1.65, first class post in the UK (that means you may get it in a week – maybe) $2.20 There has to be aa good business idea there.
Probably not to-the-letter on Paratus, as there were no weapons or survival items involved, but we got a new tech. Seems a good kid, straight out of the USMC (in fact, we’ve hired him, but he’s still on terminal leave). He doesn’t have any of his own tools yet, so I bought him some of the basics & left them on his desk, to give him a bit of a start.
I remember being young.
I got a good workout, pushing the kettlebell to the next level. Who says gifts are always things? Getting in some training with a reliable partner counts too.
Commander:
Lets hope you are doing this for many years to come!
Perhaps from a new site before next Paratus?
All the best…

“Peace and Serenity” ……Costanza
$10 shipping seems excessive. In grandpa Simpsons voice ‘…I remember when shipping was a nickel…!’
Happy Paratus!
What a great day! Shooting competition in the back yard with family and friends, $25 gift card as entry fee / prizes. Everything from lifestraws to silver coins(most sought after) to cans of Spam, everyone had a great time.
Competition included NRA 75’ targets, golf (shoot the golf ball off the tee, par 5 has five golf balls in diagonal pattern, lowest score wins. You can hit the golf ball on the side to knock other balls off the tee. We had one Eagle!), and battleship. Made smash burgers and jojos for dinner. Ended up around the campfire telling stories. It was a great event.
Women dominated the competition taking 70% of the prizes. Complained there weren’t enough Starbucks gift cards and that they didn’t need any more stuff from Cabela’s.
Talk of next year figuring out how to do a buried pig, the guys want the event to start the day before! The wives are hesitant saying they are not doing any more work without better prizes(my wife suggested a cruise prize package. Asked her how that relates to Paratus, won’t get into her response.
It was a great day with likeminded people having fun!
Happy Parataus to you also and thank you! I gave out several gifts to LMI and a couple of neighbors to their surprise. I even helped two other neighbors get better prepared by doing maintenance on their generators and showing them how to do it.
Went to a gun show today, sold a couple of spare knives to offset the purchase of some extra ammunition I needed as well as a scope mount I am building. Am considering going back tomorrow to repeat the process with different knives. I guessed poorly – only sold 3 of the 7 I took. But a C-note is a C-note.
Helped neighbor trim branches around power lines. Another neighbor took out power for 4 days 2 months ago by refusing to take down a tree that was pointed out to be ready to fall and take down power lines. Strangely the family with the downed tree has moved.
