I received a package in todays mail. (And, hey, if you ever wanna send me goodies, gold, spare mags or ammo: PO Box 1893 Missoula MT 59806) In todays package were a couple Canadian MRE’s. Normally, I dislike Canadians but after checking out their MRE’s I gotta say Im impressed. Of course, it makes sense the Canadian military could spend money on cool MRE’s since theyre military budget only has to cover a few diesel submarines and some cats and dogs.
I’ll have pictures in a day or two but two things jump out me:
1) the entrees are from our good friends Wornick in TX who make the US MRE’s
2) Theres a good bit of ‘off the shelf’ stuff in there. Stuff you could go to WallyWorld or a restaurant supply store and get to put your own MRE together. (More on that at a later post.)
Anyhoo, I’d like to thank the person generous to send me these fine example of Canadian combat cuisine. I’ll have pictures and a review as well as my usual snark in a day or two.
Speaking of snark, everything on the MRE’s is in English and French. Why do the Canadians put up with this Quebec crap?
I was getting worried
some starving postal employee snagged yer loot! LOL
Some of the main entree stuff comes from Freddy Chef; a Canuck company I believe.
So, it appears that they just get whatever they can, wherever they can.
The nuclear green stickers about the honey packets..i think there was a potential for botulism from untreated honey. Not sure if it happened, or just erring on the side of caution.
I ate a few packets anyway…still here.
Speaking of still here, returning to USA in a couple of months. Thank God.
PS About the Quebec thing-
in the PROVINCE of Quebec, if you advertise your shop in English words, the FRENCH words must be TWICE as large.
And ,yes, there is a bureaucrat to measure- and fine you, if neccessary.
Again, God bless America.
PPS Enjoy!
Re: I was getting worried
Regrettably, Anonymous here speaks the truth about Quebec’s language laws. I used to practice wierd Quebec regulatory law before coming to my senses, going in-house, and moving to Ontario.
The Office Quebecois de la langue Francaise actually has employees, civil servants formerly getting paid with my tax dollars, who, if they receive an (anonymous) complaint about an offensive English sign, will go out and measure it, document the complaint, write a nasty letter to the business owner…
But anyhow, if you’re taking MRE review requests, could I ask you to hunt down some Norwegian rations? Buddy of mine who was in the Forces says that they’re quite interesting.
Re: I was getting worried
norwegian rations ? had one, & much like the British(one of the best the box it comes in contains enough food for 24 hrs and it’s not bad as far as taste is concerned, & every box comes with a free range card printed on the outside of it), German, Spanish, & French ones i’ve sampled, it wasn’t too bad, now i’m waiting on a Russian field ration i bought on Ebay, i’ll post a review of it on my LJ
Re: I was getting worried
They must of improved them then; my buddy had some on a joint exercise once, and described them as a blob of suet with some fish mixed in :).
