Gerber Downrange Tomahawk

Hmmm. Gerber has a new product out…Gerber Downrange Tomahawk. I suppose it’s only a matter of time before product-placement puts it on ‘The Walking Dead’.

Kinda interesting. Specs say weighs less than 2# which makes it many times lighter than my FuBarForcible Entry Tool. Unlike a lot of Gerber’s offerings these days, this product is being made in the US. I’m curious as to how durable this thing is for prying…to small and lightweight and it’ll bend like pretzel, too rigid and sturdy and it’ll be too heavy to carry. And, of course, theres always the tacitly implied usage about being suitable for…’other’…uses.

Looks interesting and I’d like to play with one, but not sure I have a need for it at the moment. I do expect it to turn up on the Walking Dead at some point though.

  1. Permit some “inside baseball” commentary.
Shows like TWD are usually *inundated* with bales of crap from here to Antarctica, trying to get it “placed”.
And they’re generally shot 3-6 weeks ahead of airdate.

So likely the only reason it isn’t already on TWD is because either the writing staff hasn’t had the chance to slip it into a script, or the cubic yards of stuff waiting to be pawed through is such that the propmaster & and prop minions haven’t found the latest offerings from Gerber Knife, Toy, and Babyfood.

Lord knows, on ER and CSI they have better stuff than a hospital at NASA.

  2. Does look handy. I don’t have anything in the Tomahawk Category in my inventory, and Christmas IS approaching. I’ve kind of been leaning towards wanting to get a SPAX-16 from Ontario Knives, but they are not cheap.
