Was up at WalMart today and the folks at WallyWorld had some promotional flyers out. Since hunting season is approaching the flyers were directed at that sort of stuff. What was interesting was that while the hunting side of things was represented, there was an abundance of Evil Black Rifle stuff. DPMS AR’s for $597, SIG and COlt Ar’s, Mini-14s, etc, etc and a host of Blackhawk AR accessories like single-point slings, etc, etc.
Sign of the times? Maybe. Certainly, the market for this sort of stuff is always good right before an election. Just between you and me, though…I’m not buying an AR at WalMart. I have no way of knowing where the manufacturer cut corners to meet WallyWorlds infamous ‘must keep the price low at all costs’ purchasing criteria.
Interesting to see those sorts of guns and accessories get to be so mainstream as to wind up in the promotional flyers at the door.
Am I naive to think that a Blast O Master 9000 from Wally World is the same as a Blast O Master 9000 from Sportsmens Warehouse or Jimmy Bob’s Gun Shack?
In some case, yes.
The interesting thing I have observed about the EBRs in our eastern US local Walmarts is that when the black rifles appear, they are soon after followed by those USGI .30 cal. cans of green tip 5.56X45. The prices for the 420rd. cans of green tip when you can find them, started last year, i think it was at a low of $140 plus tax and now they are $165 or higher when you find them at Walmart – but that’s a lot better than the $200/.30 can that some local gun stores have been selling for.

I’d skip Wally World for guns or ammo since they started recording ammo buyers. Yes, this is something I’d forgotten until I went to get a few bricks of 22 a while back.

My local WallyWOrld all they do is ask for ID to show your of age to purchase it.
Ditto here, and I’m in the People’s Republic of California. They check for age, and ring it up, no records of anything.
Either some Wally Mart Sporting Goods Ass. Manager is a closet nazi, or someone’s buying their hats from the Reynolds Wrap setion of the store.

Yeah, Walmart doesn’t even sell firearms here in upstate NY anymore. And I won’t buy ammo there anymore either. I’ll support my local gun shop instead.
I like my ammo like I like my women: cheap and dirty. That’s why I find both at Walmart.
On a serious note, I do buy all my target ammo from Walmart, and my defensive rounds from a local gun store or gun show. If Walmart sees ammo continue to be a profit center, they’ll continue to sell it. Walmart selling pistol and rifle ammo next to the t-ball gear can only help shooting sports be viewed as more mainstream by middle America. That’s a good thing in my book.
Here is Alabama, they only “card” you for ammo purchases if you look underage. I’ve never shown my ID during a purchase. CZ, the flyer showed up at my house yesterday, I was a little suprised to see a real Colt product in there.
Peter – Can I use you walmart ammo comment in my taglines? That was friggin hi-larious!
