Remember those pre-scored silver bars that let you ‘make change’ in 1/4 oz. increments? Turns out there’s also a version that does it in 1/3 oz. as well. My buddy the precious metals pimp got a bunch and brought a few by to show off. While I’d seen the 1/4 ones before the 1/3 were something completely new.
Really, it would seem to me that it makes far more sense to have something like that with gold.
I would tend to agree with you…we already have fractional silver…it’s called pre-1964 coins.
As it is, I have no 1 ounce gold coins…I’ve got nothing but 1/10th and 1/4 ounce gold coins, and it really drives home the value difference to compate a 1/10th ounce gold coin to a 5 ounce silver bar.
Realistically, while coins and rounds are nice, I think I’ve just about got myself convinced that the real smart thing to do is stock up on useful things instead…bins of liquor, matches, candles, tooth paste and brushes, food and spices, and ammo/magazines, and canning jars/lids.
These are things that could be good for barter, but will also keep my family going…in the end, you can’t eat silver or gold, and if things got REALLY bad I think people will start to realize that.
In the end, the only real advantage I see for gold, and to a lesser extant, silver, is a compact form of wealth if you have to get out and move around during a period of semi-chaos.
Commander, JW,R had a link today re counterfeit silver. Caveat Emptor.
