Hmmm….my friendly ‘precious metals’ dealer just walked into the shop with a Liberty Dollar for me. As we chatted it came to my attention that, as of this moment, silver is below $30 for the first time in quite a while. Not sure why, not sure for how long, not sure if this is the beginning of a long slide, not sure if it’ll be ever north of $30 again….but what I am sure about is that I need to get more of it. I mean, really, given all the crap going on how can it not go up?

The Euro crisis is strengthening the dollar due to people flocking towards it for safety. The price of commodities in dollars is therefore falling.
It’s obviously hard to know the future or we’d all be rich and famous, but in the long run, we have the same sovereign debt issues that Europe does. All things being the same and nothing changes, you will see the dollar weaken eventually due to that issue.
Personally, I believe in buying in metered amounts at regular intervals to dollar cost average your investment. That is preferable to the everything all at once approach.
This is pretty much what I figured. With the impending death of the Euro, there’ll be a lot of nations looking to find something else to stick their money in and the dollar will benefit. Makes me wonder if perhaps someone in the US .gov isn’t helping to nudge the Euro over a cliff to help the help dollar.
The collapse of the US Dollar and or US economy could happen as well.

I figured that months ago.
I got a shock a few weeks ago when I went to buy some Baldwin Oil Filters.
For years they were made in good old Nebraska.
This latest bunch were mostly made in China.
I told my parts person that having so much made in China scares me.
He told me that its too late, we have already been sold down the river.
He might just be right.
Tried to buy for 2 days. Having significant card/ internet/ I don’t know what else issues. Being in Afghanistan where customer service people aren’t working while I am awake probably doesn’t help. I have officially given up trying.
Either it is a sign that I am not supposed to buy for whatever reason or I am beng toyed with.

Thanks for the offer of assistance. I think I am done trying to do anything like that while I am here. It started causing too much unnecessary complication/ frusteration in my life. I am pretty close to being out of the Stan anyway and I will figure it all out then.
