Patriots Day

April 19th is the traditional Patriot’s Day. In some states it is celebrated as such, in some it goes under a different name, and in far too many locales it goes by completely unobserved.

I always try to spend Patriot’s Day at the range, since I think the holiday is best marked by gunfire or firworks reminiscent of gunfire. I also tend to contemplate (more than I usually do) the roled .gov should or should not have, and the powers it should and should not have. I should probably incorporate reading some Heinlein or Rand into the holiday as well but usually im too busy cleaning guns at the end of the day.

Regardless, it is my hope that you’ll mark the holiday and even research it a little.

  1. I always introduce a few people to the history of Patriots day every year and have done so since the Oklahoma City bombing. Really kind of pissed me off when they claimed the signifigance of the date was because it was the day before Hitlers birthday. Media was trying to imply a guilt by association and say that Hitlers birthday was somehow relevant.

McVeigh was off his nut a bit but if there was any signifigance to the date it sure had nothing to do the third worst mass murderer of the 20th century.

  2. Damndest thing, it seemed that yesterday Gen. Howe and a fireteam of undead redcoats attempted to retake the colonies, starting with “those cheeky fellows in Idaho”.

A few charges of tannerite and some accurate rifle rifle from an M1A, Garand, and AR10 put them back in the ground for another year.
