The new ban looms – Link

Straight from President-Elect Carter Obama;s new website:

As president, Barack Obama would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals who shouldn’t have them. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent, as such weapons belong on foreign battlefields and not on our streets.

You were warned. If you get caught with your pants down on this one youve got no one to blame but you.

By the by, Im not a single-issue voter when it comes to guns. However, it is one of the most important rights issues to me. Why? Because it’s very difficult to make .gov respect any of your other rights, and its equally as difficult to, when forced, defend your rights,  when all you’re holding is a baseball bat.

  1. oh yeah, armed resistance is such an effective method of fighting the government, it works so well in ruby ridge, waco, philadelphia etc.

don’t be an idiot, government can always bring more and bigger guns then you can even dream of

armed resistance just gives forces of opession an excuse to use violence

  2. Would you say this to the Minutemen of the American Revolution?

It seems to me that they used armed resistance to fight their government, faced said larger government that brought more and bigger weaponry, and gave the forces of oppression an excuse to use violence against them.

I think it worked out pretty good in the long run, don’t you?

  3. I know someone who stopped police abuse, shot a cop in the gut and the cops were the ones pilloried in the press and courts. The shooter wasn’t charged and was perfectly legal in his acts under state law.

  4. Well, lets trot down the list of armed insurgency that resulted inchanges of government…

    Algeria
    Afghanistan
    Cuba
A buncha former British colonies including this one

But, tell you what, if you really believe that you go ahead and pack up whatever guns you have and ship them to me since apparently you dont need them.

  5. Yeah man, we should put our own shackles on, build our own shanty towns, sew our own stars onto our coats, turn in our own arms, burn our own books. Resistance is futile.

We have to pick our battles. Being afraid to walk down the street late in the day like in London, DC, New Orleans, or where ever is not something I want to have to deal with, and it’s not something I look forward to for future generations (whether I personally add to them or not).

The world where the strong rule over the weak is very apparent all over the world. This is what I choose to resist. If it means some government employee gets to kill me, so be it, but I’ll do my best to make them work for the honor.

Waco, Ruby Ridge, SWAT raids all across our country right now, they never really where resisted very much. If they have to worry about rear security, have to keep the chain guns in the Bradley’s, and have to keep drones in the air, maybe someone will stop and think about what’s going on.

Or maybe I’ll die when they kick in my door while I’m away, disarm me of everything except what I had at the time, and surround me when I get home. Or kill me in my bed.

Or we can hope nothing at all will happen, in which case some of us look a little silly. That would be great.

I used to buy this line too.

Then the full might of the US military was ground to a halt by an “army” of Iraqi peasants with 20-year-old Kalashnikovs and improvised bombs.

If one tenth of one percent of Americans are willing to fight, the feds would have to take and hold 3.8 million square miles of irregular terrain against a resistance force of three million well-armed people–that’s more than twice the entire US Armed Forces, even assuming every active soldier was willing to turn his weapon on his own people.

You think an armed popular resistance would have no chance of success? You give the government much more credit than I do.

  7. Non-violent opposition worked well for lots of other british colonies.

And it’s all about the proportion of forces you can bring to bear. Halfway across the world in the 18th century when the best transport you have is sailing ship. We can barely keep things more or less equal in Iraq with Jets, Copters, HMMV, and all the other logistical improvements.
